Figures are from Coinbase's public pages as captured on August 25, 2026. Everything can change; check the confirmation screen before you trade.
The costs at a glance
| Where you buy | Published cost | What else lands on the bill |
|---|---|---|
| Coinbase Exchange, entry tier | 0.40% maker and 0.60% taker | Tiers measured in US dollars |
| Simple buy in the app | Spread inside the price | Fee shown on the preview screen |
| Simple limit order | 1% execution fee | Plus 1.875% depending on payment method |
| Coinbase Advanced | No spread | You trade the order book directly |
| Reais over Pix | 1 real minimum | Fee amount is not published |
A 1,000 real order on the book costs 6 reais
The Coinbase Exchange fee documentation uses a maker-taker model: orders that provide liquidity pay less than orders that take it. The entry band of that table runs from 0 to 10 thousand US dollars of 30-day volume and is the most expensive one, at 60 basis points for takers and 40 for makers. In plain numbers, 0.60% and 0.40%.
On a 1,000 real purchase:
- a market order filled immediately: 6 reais;
- a limit order that waits on the book until someone fills it: 4 reais.
The same page states that an order placed at the market price and filled immediately pays between 0.04% and 0.60% depending on the tier. You start at the top of that range, and the tiers are measured in trailing 30-day dollar volume, not in reais.
The simple app charges on different terms
This is the part that confuses people: Coinbase has three ways to buy and three pricing logics.
On a simple buy, Coinbase states that the quoted price already includes a spread. There is no published percentage for that spread, and we did not measure it on real-denominated pairs. It reaches you as price, not as a fee line.
On a simple limit order there is a separate execution fee of 1% of the amount traded, on every buy and every sell. On 1,000 reais that is 10 reais. Coinbase also states that it may charge a further 1.875% fee that varies by payment method: on 1,000 reais, another 18.75.
On Coinbase Advanced there is no embedded spread, because you interact directly with the order book.
The practical spread between these routes is wide. The same 1,000 real purchase can cost 6 reais on the Exchange book or more than 28 reais through the simple route with a limit order and an expensive payment method. The confirmation screen is the only place that number appears before you pay.

Reais, Pix and what Coinbase does not publish
The official payment-method table lists Pix or bank transfer for customers in Brazil, with a minimum deposit of one real. Coinbase also states that it established Coinbase Brasil Ltda to serve users residing in the country.
What it does not publish is the Pix fee. The pricing page says only that adding cash or cashing out may carry a fee depending on the payment method you select. We did not verify a fixed amount for BRL deposits or withdrawals, so that number has to be read on screen before you confirm.
On scope: the 0.40% and 0.60% figures belong to the Coinbase Exchange product, with dollar-denominated tiers. They are not a Brazilian fee table, and we did not find one. To see how these numbers compare with the other exchanges we cover, see which crypto exchange charges the lowest fees in Brazil.

Checklist before you confirm
- Work out which product you are in: simple app, Advanced or Exchange.
- Read the total on the confirmation screen, not just the fee line.
- Compare that total against the current market quote to estimate the spread.
- For a simple limit order, add the 1% fee and check whether your payment method adds 1.875%.
- Check the Pix fee shown in the deposit and withdrawal flow.
- Confirm which entity appears in your account terms.
R$ worked example — R$1.000 on Coinbase Exchange entry tier
Published Coinbase Exchange entry tier: 0.40% maker / 0.60% taker (USD volume tiers):
| Order | Published rate | Approx. on R$1.000 |
|---|---|---|
| Market buy (taker) | 0.60% | ≈ R$6.00 |
| Resting (maker) | 0.40% | ≈ R$4.00 |
The simple app can quote a different all-in price (spread inside the quote). Compare the product you actually click, not one Coinbase brand fee.
FAQ
What is the cheapest published way to buy on Coinbase? The order book with a limit order, at 0.40% in the entry tier. A simple limit order with an expensive payment method is the most costly route.
Does Coinbase charge for Pix deposits? The documentation does not publish an amount. It says the cost depends on the payment method, and the deposit minimum is one real.
Is 0.60% the Brazilian rate? No. It is the entry tier of the Coinbase Exchange table, measured in dollar volume.
Why is there no signup link on this page? Because we have not confirmed a named Banco Central authorisation or verified commercial terms for Brazil. Our Coinbase coverage here is editorial only.
Verdict
Coinbase does not have one fee; it has three price levels for the same purchase. On the Exchange book, 1,000 reais costs 6 reais at market or 4 reais waiting on the book. Through the simple route you pay an embedded spread, plus 1% on a limit order, and possibly another 1.875% depending on payment. Picking the right product saves more than climbing a volume tier.
