What does Kraken charge from Brazil?

Updated Sep 18, 2026Reviewed by Darren TsangFacts as of Sep 1, 2026
Quick answer

at the entry tier of Kraken's table, a market order costs 0.80% and a resting order costs 0.40%, which is 8 or 4 reais on a 1,000 real trade. The bigger cost from Brazil is the cash route: Kraken lists a 0.3% IOF charge on Pix deposits and 0.50% on Pix withdrawals. A full round trip on 1,000 reais runs about 16 reais before any spread.

On the order book, 1,000 reais costs 8 reais

Kraken's published fee schedule opens at Tier 1, the band for low 30-day volume, with 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker. Applied to your order:

  • a market order that fills immediately: 0.80%, or 8 reais on 1,000;
  • a limit order that rests on the book until someone else fills it: 0.40%, or 4 reais.

Four reais separates those two outcomes on the same purchase. It is the cheapest decision available to you here, and it costs nothing but patience.

The calculation excludes the spread of the moment, the cost of moving cash in and out, and any tier change. Kraken sets tiers from spot, margin and futures volume or from assets held on the platform over the past 30 days, so your tier can improve over time.

Instant Buy costs more than it looks

If you use the instant buy button instead of the order book, the price moves to a different level: Kraken charges 1% on instant and recurring trades and 1.5% on custom orders. On 1,000 reais that is 10 or 15 reais.

On top of the commission, Kraken states that the price shown in that service already includes a spread, meaning the gap between the market rate and the rate you receive. Volume generated through Instant Buy also does not count towards the 30-day incentives that lower your order-book tier. You pay more and you do not move up.

Pix: the Brazilian cost the global table does not show

This is the Brazil-specific part. In the cash deposit table, the Pix route is listed as available in Brazil only, with a 50 BRL minimum and a cost described as 0.3% IOF. In the cash withdrawal table, Pix carries a 50 real minimum and a 0.50% fee.

Adding up one complete trip with 1,000 reais:

  1. Pix deposit: 3 reais;
  2. market buy with what is left: about 8 reais;
  3. a later 1,000 real Pix withdrawal: 5 reais.

That is roughly 16 reais, or 1.6% of the amount, before the spread and before any price movement between the two moments. Swap the market order for a limit order and the total falls to about 12 reais.

One note on scope: Kraken describes the deposit cost as IOF, a tax, rather than as its own fee. We did not verify who collects that amount or how it shows up on your statement.

Checklist before you confirm

  1. Choose between the order book and Instant Buy knowing the gap is 0.80% versus 1% plus spread.
  2. Use a limit order if you can wait: 4 reais instead of 8 per 1,000.
  3. Check the fee tier applied to your account before sending the order.
  4. Respect the 50 BRL deposit minimum and the 50 real withdrawal minimum.
  5. Work out the exit cost before you enter, because 0.50% applies to the amount withdrawn.
  6. Compare the total on the confirmation screen against the market quote.

Kraken entry tier (published): 0.40% maker / 0.80% taker. From Brazil, Kraken also lists 0.3% IOF on Pix deposits and 0.50% on Pix withdrawals:

A full round-trip can dwarf the maker line — stack the cash route with the book fee.

FAQ

What is the most expensive way to pay without noticing? Instant Buy plus spread. The 1% commission is visible; the spread is not.

Is 0.80% a Brazilian rate? No. It is the entry tier of the global table, with thresholds measured in dollars. What is Brazil-specific is the Pix route.

Can I reduce the fee? Yes, through more volume, assets held on the platform, or by using limit orders. Instant Buy volume does not help you climb tiers.

Why is there no signup link on this page? Because we have not confirmed a named Banco Central authorisation or verified commercial terms for Brazil. Our Kraken coverage here is editorial only.

Verdict

Kraken's entry-tier trading fee is high next to its own upper tiers: 0.80% on a market order. Add Pix on the way in and on the way out and a full 1,000 real round trip costs about 16 reais. The good news is that most of that cost is your choice: a limit order instead of a market order, and the order book instead of Instant Buy, cut the bill before you negotiate anything.
